t’s not uncommon – you put food or other waste down the garbage disposal, turn the faucet on, and the disposal does its job. Most of the time, that’s the end of the story. But every now and then, you go back the next day, turn on the garbage disposal and nothing happens. Now what should you do?

The first you want to do is avoid putting anything down into the disposal– including your hands or fingers. It’s not a bad idea to shine a flashlight down the drain opening to see if there’s anything blocking the drain or any foreign object stuck in the rotating blade fixture. However, don’t put your hand down the garbage disposal, even if the unit is turned off. If the blades are wound around something and you knock it loose, you could cut your fingers. There is a reset button on the disposal itself, but if that doesn’t resolve the problem, your best option is to call the experienced licensed professionals at Northwest Plumbing.
